Magazine design, website design and copywriting are all part of the publishing mix provided by We Make Magazines for this Devon food & drink magazine.
Taste Buds magazine was established in 2004. It began as a free quarterly restaurant listings magazine covering South Devon and was acquired by We Make Magazines in January 2010. The magazine's design and editorial content underwent a complete overhaul in March of the same year.
Devon has a huge food scene. A number of organisations, such as Food and Drink Devon and Taste of the West, exist to promote local Devon produce. The new magazine design and editorial focus was intended to reposition Taste Buds as a quality food and drink magazine to reflect this market.
The layout was redesigned and the paper stock was changed to matt to give it a contemporary feel. Photography and editorial content was expanded and improved – mainly commissioned from local photographers and writers to give the magazine a local identity, but also using photography sourced from stock libraries to keep the cost to a minimum.
The redesign received an award in the national Independent Publisher Awards in the Best Launch/Relaunch of the Year category. As a result of the redesign, circulation and advertising revenue have increased.
As well as publishing the printed magazine, We Make Magazines is also credited for the magazine's website design. The website currently receives 10,000 unique visitors per month and is an added revenue stream for the printed magazine.
We Make Magazines organises the annual Devon Restaurant Month campaign.
